Babysitter troubles
Last Thursday, my daughter was at the babysitter’s and she got burned. The babysitter called and said that everything was fine, but that I needed to call her. So, naturally, I call her right away thinking that it is something important and that I needed to call 5 minutes ago. Karen (babysitter) said that my daughter had burned herself with some boiling water while messing around…??? I asked if it had blistered up and she said that her hand (singular) had a few blisters, but nothing to be concerened about. I call the husband and let him know what was going on since Karen wasn’t able to get a hold of him yet. He didn’t answer (no service) but I talked with his boss. So. Ryan (husband) calls and says that he talked to Karen and that there wasn’t anything to worry about per Karen. He gets her home after working a full day and calls me saying that he thinks she should see someone because it isn’t very minor. Later, while she is in the bath, he takes a picture and sends it to me via phone. It looks bad, but nothing like what it was when I saw her that weekend. Friday, after work, he takes her to Immediate Healthcare and the NP says she doesn’t buy the story that the babysitter told us because there aren’t any splatter marks, thumbs aren’t burned, and it is only blistered on the backs of her hands. She (NP) lanced the blisters and bandages them up and gives my daughter antibiotics and silver sulfadiazine for her burns. I finally see her hands on Saturday and they are terrible. Now, my daughter isn’t even 2 years old yet and she has to deal with blistered hands-there isn’t a normal spot on her fingers. Bad news comes when Ryan said that the NP reported the incindent per Missouri law. Ok. No big deal. Accidents happen, but one doesn’t need to lie about it. I personally do not believe that Karen did this on purpose, but she could have been more honest about it. Sunday we met up with a social worker so she could make sure that the baby was safe and informed us that there were 2 police reports filed. 2. We know that the NP filed one, but who did the other? Ryan and I were thinking that Karen could have filed the other one to cover her butt, saying that Ryan had brought her in with the burns. I can believe that she would do something like this because of the way she is. I hope that this isn’t the case, but I also hope that nothing happens to her because she was great babysitter. Any opinions?
